I took this at Hitchkock Nature Area near Cresent, IA. Can anyone provide an ID?

Hi Frank, That is a Red Columbine. Is it growing wild in the area? And in fairness, my wife identified it from my description without looking at it!

Hi Frank, Is it growing wild in the area? Yeah, I found this example growing along the main trail at the Hitchkock Nature Center in Iowa (just north of Crescent). The first of two small patches was about 20 yards from the trail head on the left side of the trail as you walk into the forest. The second patch was along the same side of the same trail but about a 1/4 mile further. I have spent very little time at Hitchkock and generally do not shoot flowers so I don't know if these are common over there or not. But they caught my eye so I snapped a couple of shots. I could have really used a tripod and a macro lents . I shot this hand held with a Pentax K7 and smc Pentax DA*50-135 @ 75mm 1/100s @ f/3.5 iso200
